Fall 2013 Runway Lacquer Trends: London, Paris and Milan!

Sadly fashion month is over, but there is so much inspiration to be gathered from the runways! Trends for Fall 2013 range from classic fabrics to exaggerated silhouettes to lots of bling. Once again, the nails were on point this season and complemented the fall fashions beautifully. We’ve already covered New York Fashion Week so here are our favorite manicures from London, Milan and Paris!

London Fashion Week

Major trends at LFW include jewel tones, romantic fabrics like lace and chiffon as well as Medieval silhouettes.  Nails tended to be in darker shades like ruby, eggplant, oxblood and black. Get your luxury crimson shades ready! Nail art wasn’t as prominent this season, but a few popular styles like matte, glitter and half-moons popped up.

At MFW, dramatic outerwear, classic fabrics like plaid and tweed and bright colors graced the runway. The manicures stayed classic and were pretty much free from any nail art. Popular shades included nude, crimson (again), oxblood and black.

Pretty pastels, super short hemlines and oversized silhouettes ended Fashion Month on a high note. The nails at PFW were artistic, detailed and fun. Nail artists experimented with bright colors, long talons, and matching lipstick & lacquer. Classic styles like the French manicure and the popular gradient were given a dramatic flair.

March Lacqueen: Adele

image

Every month we name one celebrity as our celebrity “Lacqueen” of the month. Our March Lacqueen is the amazing Adele! In the last few years, she has shot to fame for her musical talents and powerful voice. She has shattered countless records and won numerous awards, including most recently an Oscar! We love Adele for her humble attitude, talent and great style (not to mention her awesome award speeches).

image

Adele’s style is greatly influenced by the 1950s and she likes to keep it simple. She usually wears retro silhouettes and a lot of black. When it comes to her nails, however, Adele doesn’t seem to mind experimenting. She usually sports long, stiletto nails and tends to stick to classic shades or metallics that add a ‘pop’ to her gowns.

At last year’s Grammys, we saw Adele cause quite a frenzy with the “Louboutin” manicure. The underside was the classic red but she opted for a metallic steel blue on top. The manicure was done by Mike Pocock using the Ciate Paint Pot in Jewel and Mistress shade.

For the 2013 awards season, celebrity manicurist Kimmie Kyees has created several award-worthy looks. For the Golden Globes, she layered a custom Sally Hansen gold-flecked lacquer called Pennies for Heaven over a rosy pink shade.

At the Grammy Awards, Kyees complemented Adele’s Valentino dress with OPI’s Hands Off My Kielbasa and a matte topcoat.

To accent a gorgeous glittery Jenny Packham gown at the Oscars, Kyees went with Sally Hansen Almost Almond topped with Sally Hansen Quick Sand for a peachy-nude manicure.

Luxury Lacquer Stands Out in Spring Haute Couture Collections

It’s official: lacquer has become fashion’s hottest accessory! During the elite Spring 2013 Haute Couture week, manicures took center stage along side the amazing fashion. Some designers chose simple lacquer to enhance their designs, while others went in a bolder direction.

The luxurious Armani Privé collection, filled with bright colors and geometric patterns, was accented by dark plum nails.

Chanel’s dramatic collection featured plenty of feathers, lace and jewels. Models wore Emprise, from the Precieux Printemps du Chanel collection on their fingers and a navy lacquer on their toes.

Any look from the Dior collection is perfectly crafted for a spring garden party. In terms of beauty, jewel-encrusted lips stood out while pale lacquer complemented the pastel color palette.

Jean Paul Gaultier’s wild collection, inspired in part by Gypsies, featured bold red and silver glitter nails, with some models’ feet painted orange and silver.

White lacquer perfectly complemented the beautiful organza and whimsical embroidery in the romantic Valentino collection.

Less Is More For Lacquer At Paris Fashion Week

Paris Fashion Week wrapped up a few days ago, bringing Fashion Month to a close. As the fashion capital of the world, Paris is known for some of the most exciting runway shows of the season. Though we expected to see some unconventional nail art this week, most designers chose minimal manicures.

At Chanel, models wore classic French manicures that complemented the young, fresh collection beautifully. Manicurists used Chanel Le Vernis Ballerina and Eastern Light, which is part of the upcoming Hong Kong collection.

Louis Vuitton also chose French manicures to accent the graphic mod-inspired collection.

The feminine clothes at Valentino were paired with nude lacquer for a more delicate style.

Some designers chose more vibrant polishes this season. Jean Paul Gaultier’s 80s-inspired collection was accented with bright red lips and matching nails.

At Giles, MAC makeup artists matched matte fuchsia lips with hot pink nails, as the designer wanted the beauty looks to resemble makeup done at home.

The safari-inspired looks at Kenzo were complemented with forest green, orange and brown nails.

Now that fashion month is over, we can look forward to fall lacquer collections!
