June Lacqueen: Kate Moss

It’s hard to find someone more covetable in the fashion industry than Kate Moss. She has graced the cover of every major magazine and can be seen walking for the top brands each fashion week. Kate is muse to artists and designers alike, who find inspiration in her beauty and ability to transform in front of the camera.

Kate Moss definitely knows what’s hot in the nail industry, saying “Nails are a huge influence now, it’s part of the look now, it’s as much as the hair and make up.” She is a fan of the classic 60s almond nail shape and prefers to stick to solid colors in favor of nail art. She prefers neutral colors like grey and beige and uses lacquer as an accessory: “…if I want to make a statement, I’ll wear a brighter shade to add a flash of color to an outfit. Or I’ll choose a metallic polish, instead of jewelry to finish off a look.”

Recently Kate Moss has transitioned into being a fixture in the beauty industry with her Rimmel London collaboration. She works with the brand to create high-quality products inspired by the latest fashion trends. The line includes a range of lacquers whose formula includes Lycra, making manicures last up to 10 days with a gel-like shine.

Here are a few more of our favorite Kate Moss manicure moments!

Fall 2013 Runway Lacquer Trends: London, Paris and Milan!

Sadly fashion month is over, but there is so much inspiration to be gathered from the runways! Trends for Fall 2013 range from classic fabrics to exaggerated silhouettes to lots of bling. Once again, the nails were on point this season and complemented the fall fashions beautifully. We’ve already covered New York Fashion Week so here are our favorite manicures from London, Milan and Paris!

London Fashion Week

Major trends at LFW include jewel tones, romantic fabrics like lace and chiffon as well as Medieval silhouettes.  Nails tended to be in darker shades like ruby, eggplant, oxblood and black. Get your luxury crimson shades ready! Nail art wasn’t as prominent this season, but a few popular styles like matte, glitter and half-moons popped up.

At MFW, dramatic outerwear, classic fabrics like plaid and tweed and bright colors graced the runway. The manicures stayed classic and were pretty much free from any nail art. Popular shades included nude, crimson (again), oxblood and black.

Pretty pastels, super short hemlines and oversized silhouettes ended Fashion Month on a high note. The nails at PFW were artistic, detailed and fun. Nail artists experimented with bright colors, long talons, and matching lipstick & lacquer. Classic styles like the French manicure and the popular gradient were given a dramatic flair.

2013 Nail Trends from LFW

From the vibrant tropical prints at Issa to the neon color palette at House of Holland, London Fashion Week proves that less than stellar weather is no match for incredible spring fashion! Ofcourse, no runway would be complete without fabulous nail art and the collections at LFW informed of us some of the European nail trends for 2013.

Much like at New York Fashion Week, barely there lacquers were pretty popular. At Kaelen, nude nail polish was accented with black to create a messy half moon manicure. Daks complemented their minimalist collection with a griege (grey and beige) lacquer mixed by Revlon nail artists.

Bright colors were also popular during London Fashion Week. Antonio Berardi introduced a beautiful neon salmon lacquer from Revlon. At PPQ, Butter London created cool water marble design with hot pink and black lacquer.

Another hit at LFW was Minx Nails. David Koma had Minx create 25 individual nail sets to correspond with each of his designs. At Francesca Marotta, the elegant designs were accented with silver nails.

Exploring the World of Nail Art

Over the past few years, nail art has grown from being a fun novelty into a legitimate style statement. These days, stylish ladies are serious about their nails, but not much is known about the origin of nail art. The documentary Nailgasm seeks to explore the evolution of nail art from hip hop culture to high fashion.

Ayla L. Montgomery, professionally known as Brass, is the Los Angeles-based documentarian behind Nailgasm. She fully funded the project via Kickstarter, a funding platform for creative projects. Through interviews with luxury nail artists, pop culture journalists, and nail art enthusiasts, Brass aims to discover the origins of nail art and the range of creativity in the industry.

Brass intends to use the money raised through Kickstarter to travel to various cities, including Los Angeles, New York, Las Vegas, Oakland, London, and Tokyo to research the different styles of nail art. In New York, Brass interviews Fleury Rose, who excels at fashion-influenced nails and intricate designs. Also in the documentary are the artists of London’s own Wah Nails, notable for their edgy art and use of bright colors. Another salon featured is Disco Nails, whose artists are known for their whimsical designs and use of 3D nail art.
