Check out our founder Ashlene Nand on Rebecca Minkoff’s blog!
At a recent Decoded Fashion event, we met Aussie beauty maven Ash Nand and learned about her genius new nail polish subscription service,Lacquerous. From luxe Tom Ford to your favorite Chanel, Lacquerous allows you to rent and share designer nail polishes for a flat monthly fee of $18 (think Rent the Runway meets Birchbox). Learn more about Ash and her new service below.
What was your inspiration to create Lacquerous? How has your personal experience influenced the idea?
I simply couldn’t afford the $18-$26 every time I wanted to wear a new designer shade. I love nail polish but sometimes I need to accessorize with a color before I commit. Turns out there were other women out there who felt the same way and no service to allow us to do that. That inspired me to start Lacquerous.

Here at Lacquerous, we are always on the lookout for new shades to add to our growing inventory. Social media maven Lauren has been tasked to test out some brands and let our dear readers know how they perform.
The latest lacquer brand that I have tested is wHet Nail Lacquer. This brand is all about the avant-garde. Their polish is specially created to be fashion-forward and work for any season. wHet Nail Lacquer is a vegan, 3-free line comprised of limited edition colors. Each shade has a unique name that perfectly describes each bold color.
The shade sent to me by wHet Nail Lacquer is Quixotic. By definition, Quixotic means “extravagantly chivalrous or romantic” and that definitely suits this shade. This rich raspberry color is beautiful! It’s perfect for a romantic night out and would pair well with a chic little black dress. The size of wHet’s bottle is slightly larger than most, which I think is great because there’s not a lot of polish buildup around the mouth of the bottle. The formula is not too thick and applies opaque in two coats. Also, it’s super shiny, even without a topcoat! I was able to wear Quixotic for about 5 days without any chips so the wear is pretty good.

Here at Lacquerous, we are always on the lookout for new lacquers to add to our growing inventory. We figure it would be a great idea to test out some brands and let our dear readers know how they perform.
Mint Polish is a fairly new lacquer company, but it’s already creating buzz for its fast drying “one coat wonders.” Started in 2012 by Greta Huberty, Mint Polish prides itself on being vegan, 5-free and 100% American made. Their mission statement is “Good. Clean. Colors” and I think they certainly live up to it.
The first Mint Polish shade I tried was Bellini Babe. This is a soft peach glitter lacquer that sparkles beautifully in the sun. I applied two coats and it looked exactly like it does in the bottle.
Next I wore Pass the Scone, which is a rich taupe color. This polish reminds me of a latte and is opaque in just one coat.
I also layered Bellini Babe over Pass the Scone, which gave it a lovely shine!
The third Mint Polish shade I tried is Lavender Macaron. This is probably the best lavender shade I’ve tried. It’s so vibrant and I love that it applies perfectly in just one coat.
Next up is Original Mint. This shade is stunning! I found that it applies a bit lighter than it looks in the bottle but it’s still a gorgeous color.
Bleeker St. Babe is a khaki green shade that can skew from green to gray depending on the light. This shade is a great neutral and it would work well on any skin tone.
The next shade I wore is Sweet Liberty. This is my favorite shade in the collection and is one of the best nail polish colors I’ve ever worn. This red orange color is so bright and looks amazing with tan skin. When I wear it I can’t stop looking at my nails! Sweet Liberty is a perfect summer shade.
Dirty Shirley is a hot pink lacquer with a hint of iridescence. The purple pearlescent undertones make this shade really stand out. Like with Sweet Liberty, when I wore this I couldn’t stop staring at my nails!
The final shade I wore is Ribbon Dancer, Mint Polish’s first glitter polish. This shade is packed with glitter and looks great on its own.
I also layered Ribbon Dancer over Dirty Shirley, which really made it pop.

Once again it’s time to look to the latest fashion magazines to see what’s on trend this season. For the month of June many of the editorials are ready for summer, with beachy style and vibrant nails taking center stage. Others incorporate fall lacquer shades into warm weather locales, which turn out beautifully. Here are some of our favorite editorials from this month!
