Warm weather is here and you know what that means: summer beauty collections! Our favorite luxury brands have created lacquer shades that remind us of a tropical getaway. It’s a slighter darker, shimmery summer but no less fun. 

Butter London Summer Holiday 2013 Collection

Butter London’s Summer Holiday 2013 collection is designed to look amazing against sun-kissed skin. Inspired by the Mediterranean, these lacquers are the epitome of summer.

L’été Papillon de Chanel Collection

The L’été Papillon de Chanel collection includes three lacquers that are inspired by the dazzling vibrancy of butterflies. Azure, Bel-Argus and Lilis are bold, electric shades that will look great in the summer sun.

Deborah Lippmann Mermaids Collection

For the Mermaids collection, Deborah Lippmann created four lacquers inspired by her popular shade Mermaid’s Dream. These lacquers are lightly textured and contain glitter, so they will shimmer beautifully underwater.

Dior Bird of Paradise Collection

The Dior Bird of Paradise collection takes inspiration from the exotic and tropical locales in Latin America. Bahia and Samba are two complementary lacquer duos so you can coordinate your manicures and pedicures.

MAC Punk Couture Collection

The limited edition lacquer Dark Angel, a frosty dark lilac shade, is a part of the Punk Couture collection, which coincides with the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Punk: Chaos to Couture exhibit.

MAC Temperature Rising Collection

MAC takes you from day to night with their steamy Temperature Rising collection. Scorching Haute and Tropical are packed with glitter so your nails will sparkle all night long.

NARS x Pierre Hardy Collection

NARS’ latest collection is a fashionista’s dream come true! They have teamed up with Pierre Hardy to create a line inspired by the French designer’s Summer 2013 shoe collection. The lacquers come in pairs of two in boxes designed to resemble Hardy’s shoeboxes.

Tom Ford Beauty Summer 2013 Collection

Tom Ford Beauty’s Summer 2013 collection is inspired by the sultry, seductive glow of a woman’s skin in summer. This line includes Vapor, an icy white opaque polish.

The latest brand I’ve been able to test is Wet Paint. This line was created by celebrity nail stylist Julia Palmer, who wanted to produce a line of lacquers with vivid colors that mimic precious gemstones. Wet Paint offers a nail glaze system that boasts one coat coverage and 60-second drying time. Their enamel technology provides a unique glaze on the nail. Their lacquers are labeled either Base or SPFX. Bases can be worn alone or underneath the SPFX topcoats, which completely change the look of the Base color.

I first tried the Base color Crimson & Clover. This deep, rich oxblood shade is gorgeous and right on trend. The formula is smooth and has the perfect thickness. It truly covers the nail well with just one coat, but I painted on two coats just to be safe. This color dries much darker than it looks in the bottle, but I’m happy with the darker shade. I feel like it makes my nails look longer!

Next I tried the SPFX topcoat Fructoes by itself. This color is an iridescent pale pink with a pearl finish. It’s a very pretty color, but I don’t think I would wear it alone. As you can see from the photo, it doesn’t stand out on its own as much as I would have hoped.

Finally, I applied Fructoes on top of Crimson & Clover. It changed the Base from a dark, sleek oxblood to a shiny mauve. Fructoes work so beautifully as a topcoat! I think that once coat of each would be sufficient because any more than 4 coats would look way too heavy. I love that with just two lacquers you can have three completely different looks, depending on your mood!
