Lacquerous Review: Priti NYC

Here at Lacquerous, we are always on the lookout for new lacquers to add to our growing inventory. We figured it would be a great idea to test out some brands and let our dear readers know how they perform.

Priti NYC is an organic, 5–free lacquer brand that prides itself on supporting organic farmers as well as reducing the amount of pollutants affecting the Earth through their nail polish. In addition to creating over 100 different shades, they also offer a soy based nail polish remover and a recycled glass nail file, proving that they are one of the top luxury eco-friendly brands on the market today. Priti NYC has also created Priti Princess, the first eco-friendly and non-toxic lacquer line for children.

The lovely people at Priti NYC sent me two shades from their Spring 2013 Sherbet Collection to try. These colors are light, shimmery and fab for spring!

Mermaid Rose is a creamy lemon yellow shade with fine glitter and a subtle pink undertone. This color is beautiful! The formula is thick but goes on smoothly. It provides complete coverage in just two coats. With a topcoat, Mermaid Rose stayed on for about 5 days with minor tip wear.

Remember Me is a pale orange cream with fine silver glitter. This shade is a dreamy creamsicle on your nails! Like Mermaid Rose, the formula has the ideal thickness, applies smoothly and is opaque in two coats. Remember Me also lasted a long time with just a bit of tip wear.

Trend to Try: Textured Nails

We’re always on the lookout for the hottest trends in nail art and lately it seems that the nail industry is all about experimentation. From extra long talon nails to wild, colorful nail art, nail enthusiasts aren’t afraid to go crazy with their manicures. The latest wild nail art trend we love is textured lacquer! Here are some of the different ways to get some texture on your nails.

Ciate Chalkboard Manicure

Ciate is the leading brand when it comes to texture. Their innovative ideas include their caviar, velvet and foil manicure kits. Ciate’s latest creation is the chalkboard manicure kit. This kit includes black chalkboard paint, a matte topcoat and four chalk pens. The chalk pens are water-soluble so you can doodle as much as you like and easily wash off your designs with water.

China Glaze Texture Collection

For their Texture collection, China Glaze created a line of neon shades. These lacquers go on smooth like a crème, but dry matte and coarse for a cool 3D effect.

Nails Inc. Denim & Studs Kit

Thanks to Nails Inc., you can wear your jeans on your nails! This glossy indigo polish dries matte to resemble your favorite pair of jeans. The kit includes star-shaped studs to add some bling to your nails.

Nails Inc. Feathers

Nails Inc. is once again on trend with their Feather Effects collection. The lacquer is filled with tiny fibers that blend together to create a quill effect on your nails.

Deborah Lippmann Mermaid Collection

Just in time for summer, Deborah Lippmann’s latest collection contains 5 stunning shades inspired by the sea. These lacquers dry glossy but slightly textured so if you want to try the texture trend without going overboard, these are the perfect choice!

OPI Liquid Sand

Starting with their Mariah Carey lacquers, OPI has released several Liquid Sand shades with each new collection. Liquid Sand dries matte and has a hint of glitter for some fantastic shine.

Trend to Try: Bows

One of our favorite ways to accessorize our nails is with bows! They are the perfect things to add some girly flair to your manicure. From painted bows to 3D accents, it’s easy to incorporate them into your nail style.

If you don’t like your nails to stand out too much, try a bow that is the same color as your lacquer, like this gold and silver manicure.

If you are more daring, add a large bow to an accent nail for a wilder look.

The easiest way to accessorize with bows is with nail tattoos. How adorable is this peachy manicure?

Some our favorite celebrities have rocked bows on their nails too! Beyoncé added bows to her metallic manicure.

Zooey Deschanel has worn bow nail art on several occasions. She shook up her style when she wore a yellow and silver 3D manicure at the 2012 Critics’ Choice Awards and tuxedo nails at the 2012 Golden Globes.

Rihanna wore an edgy nude and black leopard manicure with gold bows and rhinestones.

Trend to Try: Accent Nails

Looking to step up your nail art game without going overboard? Then an accent nail is perfect! You can achieve this look by painting all of your nails the same color except your one (or two) fingers. The most popular has been the ring finger also known as the ‘fourth finger manicure’.

For a fall look, try neutral colors and paint your accent nail with the color of your tips like Jessica Alba. If you look closely, you’ll see she’s chosen a brown shade for her mani and ring finger.

Want to stick with the brights? You can choose complementary colors like Beyonce did for her light pink and mint green mani.

For a wilder look, mix solid colored lacquer with patterned nail art, like Michelle Williams, Nicole Scherzinger and Vanessa Hudgens.
