Spring is officially here and we are on the lookout for this season’s hottest nail art! As you know, one of our favorite places to get manicure inspiration is Instagram. We love seeing how people experiment with their nails using the top luxury lacquer brands. Here are some of the biggest trends in nail art right now straight from Instagram! (Remember, if you’re a Lacquerous member aka Lacqueen please send us your pics to share!)
The French manicure is always on trend and this season many people are playing around with the classic style.

Vladi_07’s mismatched French mani is so fun! Laura_ahn used the sparkly Deborah Lippmann Happy Birthday on her tips. Arielalaib topped Deborah Lippmann Waking Up in Vegas with a silver Sally Hansen lacquer for a cool geometric look.
Polka dots have been seen a lot on the spring runways and they make for an easy nail art technique to recreate.
Misturinhachic used several different Dior Vernis shades to create a colorful, Easter egg-inspired manicure. Crimsonlovesyou topped Butter London Lady Muck with Royal Navy dots and a matte topcoat. Mixing royal blue Dior Blue Denim and Essie No Place Like Chrome created a stellar manicure for Fraise_chocolat.
Leopard print adds dimension to your manicure, whether you are rocking it on all of your nails or just as an accent design.

Britbere88 used OPI Gargantuan Green Grape as the base for a neutral leopard print. To add something special to her neon leopard nails, Yannyglez topped them with an OPI matte topcoat. This purple and lavender Dior Vernis design from likemycookie is pretty and sophisticated.
Nude nails work for everyone and these ladies chose the perfect luxury shades for their complexions.

Forecast_for_fashion’s talons look great in Tom Ford Toasted Sugar. Chanel Le Vernis Beige helps Chanel_svp’s short nails look longer. Danariehna’s manicure looks glossy and elegant thanks to Chanel Le Vernis Emprise.

Our Lacqueen for the month of April is… Jessica Biel! From the red carpet to the covers of magazines, Mrs Timberlake holds her own and inspires us with our nail game. Her style is modest yet elegant and her lacquer choices are anything but safe. With her Old Hollywood glamour, and occasional subtle nail art, Jessica is hard to ignore and easy to love. Check out our fave pics and look for more as we focus on our latest celebrity Lacqueen.
For the January 2013 cover of Elle, her cherry red nails added a bright pop of color to a gorgeous black and white embellished Dior dress
In a 2010 campaign for Revlon, Jessica channeled Dorian Leigh’s iconic 1952 Fire & Ice ad in a slinky silver gown and ruby manicure. Stunning.
Her red carpet manicures stand out the most. For the 2012 MTV Movie Awards, she accented a stark white Chanel dress with a pearlescent mauve manicure.
At the Total Recall premiere last year, Jessica had the blogs buzzing with a light pink Giambattista Valli dress and an asymmetrical pink and silver French manicure.
For the Hitchcock premiere in Los Angeles, Jessica’s oxblood nails were given a twist with thin gold stripes across the tips.
The movie also premiered in New York, where she matched her frosty caviar manicure to her beaded Oscar de la Renta ensemble.

It’s official: lacquer has become fashion’s hottest accessory! During the elite Spring 2013 Haute Couture week, manicures took center stage along side the amazing fashion. Some designers chose simple lacquer to enhance their designs, while others went in a bolder direction.
The luxurious Armani Privé collection, filled with bright colors and geometric patterns, was accented by dark plum nails.
Chanel’s dramatic collection featured plenty of feathers, lace and jewels. Models wore Emprise, from the Precieux Printemps du Chanel collection on their fingers and a navy lacquer on their toes.
Any look from the Dior collection is perfectly crafted for a spring garden party. In terms of beauty, jewel-encrusted lips stood out while pale lacquer complemented the pastel color palette.
Jean Paul Gaultier’s wild collection, inspired in part by Gypsies, featured bold red and silver glitter nails, with some models’ feet painted orange and silver.
White lacquer perfectly complemented the beautiful organza and whimsical embroidery in the romantic Valentino collection.

The 70th Annual Golden Globe Awards were held last night and the fashion did not disappoint! While red was the most popular color, nail art was kept minimally chic. It was all about one-color luxury lacquers to compliment the gowns. Here’s our round up:
Adele matched her nails to burnt orange detailing on her sleek Burberry gown.
Kerry Washington’s blush Miu Miu ensemble was flawlessly complemented with soft pink nails.
Marion Cotillard stunned in tangerine Dior Haute Couture and icy grey nails.
Anne Hathaway wore a gorgeous beaded Chanel gown and accessorized with a pearl-accented Chanel manicure.

Jennifer Lopez paired her nude illusion Zuhair Murad gown with nude stilleto-shaped nails.
Jessica Alba wore a beautiful salmon Oscar de la Renta gown with a matching light pink manicure. Check out our new Pink shades on Lacquerous.
Rachel Weisz accented a lovely sheer polka-dotted Louis Vuitton gown with ruby red nails.
Sarah Hyland wore jet black Max Azria Atelier, which worked perfectly with her black and gold manicure.
Nicole Richie rocked a lacy blue Naeem Khan gown and charcoal nails.
Julianne Hough wowed in an edgy white Monique Lhullier gown and added a pop of color with dark purple and silver nails.
Zooey Deschanel’s nails, adorned in retro filmstrips, were as glamorous as her Old Hollywood-esque Oscar de la Renta gown.

Thanksgiving is on Thursday and we want to celebrate this beautiful fall season with luxury lacquer! Taking inspiration from some of the best Fall 2012 collections, here are some of our favorite fall looks and the luxury lacquers that complement them exquisitely.
Alexander McQueen’s fall collection was inspired by creative director Sarah Burton’s wish to represent the future as being bright. This collection featured ethereal, flowing gowns and plenty of feathers. The color palette ranged from pale grey, lavender and pink to ruby red black. The best lacquer shades to complement Alexander McQueen’s futuristic, feminine style are Deborah Lippmann Sugar Daddy, NARS Diamond Life and Dior Red Royalty.
For Balenciaga, Nicolas Ghesquière used exaggerated silhouettes and bold colors to create modern office-appropriate clothing. He beautifully matched typical professional wear like high-waisted pants, A-line skirts and boxy jackets with over the top prints and materials to create a collection perfect for businesswomen of the future. To achieve a manicure that is as funky as Balenciaga’s fall collection, try Tom Ford Ginger Fire, OPI Diamond Dust or Deborah Lippmann Between the Sheets.

Gucci’s sleek fall collection was inspired by romance and the 19th century. A rich burgundy, emerald green and black color palette seamlessly blended with a Victorian aesthetic to create strong styles. Lush velvet, tapestry jacquard and leather accents added even more drama to these beautiful designs. To bring out your dark, romantic side, try the gorgeous Chanel Vamp, Black Satin or Peridot.

Missoni’s collection for fall is all about by the great outdoors. Creative director Angela Missoni’s muse was “a girl who wants to lose herself in the wild but is stuck living in the city.” Missoni’s signature knits brought life to the clothes and were layered under heavy coats, luxurious furs and leather jackets. The color palette was mostly neutral, with some denim blue, orange and mint accenting chocolate brown and beige. If you love anything inspired by nature, then three perfect lacquer shades to try are Butter London Knackered, NARS Orgasm and Tom Ford Bitter Bitch.

The day has come: Lacquerous has finally gone live! Now you have access to a fabulous inventory of luxury lacquers that are available to try without having to buy.

Thanks to Refinery 29 for breaking the story yesterday. Check out what they had to say, along with others.
“We love this idea — access to designer-ready digits without having to shell out $30 for a single polish? Genius. We’ve rarely, if ever, used an entire bottle of polish in our lives — usually we get halfway down and they start getting all tacky and hard to use, so we just chuck them. This gives you the opportunity to try the latest shades, without the commitment or the hefty price tag. And, for those of you germaphobes worried about shared polish being unsanitary, remember that the polishes you use at the nail salon are just that: communal, meaning lots of other people have used them. Not to mention the fact that nail polish manufacturers have to make sure that their lacquers are safe despite how many people are using them, meaning that polish is not a cesspool of icky bacteria, thank you very much.” ~Refinery 29
In this anti-ownership era, anyone one can have anything for a limited time only. We bike share, Zipcar, and Netflix our way through the day without having to sign anything permanent. Websites like Rent the Runway and Bag Borrow or Steal allow a tenuous hold on whatever the heart desires (within company-defined limits). Lacquerous, a brand-new nail polish sharing company, combines the rental aspect of Rent the Runway with the subscription model of Birchbox, to allow any girl to dip her nails into a variety of luxury polishes for a flat rate of $18 a month. ~ TIME Style
The most common question we receive is naturally about hygiene. Yep, we’ve heard it all! The fact is that, as microbiologists confirm, no fungus, bacteria, microbe or anything living can survive in a bottle of nail polish. At Lacquerous, bottles are sealed for at least 1 day in transit and we inspect all bottles received. The truth is, whether we want to admit it or not, we all take a risk when sharing makeup at a department store or eating from a salad bar or touching a handrail.. If you are germaphobe, then sadly this probably isn’t for you.
Some of the other common questions we’ve been getting are: What if I use to much? Will I get a new bottle everytime? The answer is, much like a club, it’s about sharing the product. We provide an experience to our members to try luxury lacquer. We’ll never send you anything that isn’t Instagram worthy ;) All we ask is that you stick to the guidelines as close as possible and we’ll make sure you will enjoy being a part of Lacquerous. We’re less like Big Brother and a lot more like a big sister! All these questions are answered on the website too.
Now, for the fun part! What colors do you want to try? You can email Lacquerous while you are waiting! Here are some of the designer brands already available:
Butter London
Chanel
Deborah Lippmann
Dior
Dolce & Gabbana
MAC
NARS
Tom Ford

Now that we’ve had fun with Halloween-inspired nail art, it’s time to think about the holidays! This is such a special time of year and we can’t think of a better way to kick off the holiday season than by looking at some of the upcoming Holiday 2012 lacquer collections.
Butter London’s holiday collection is all about the sparkle! Taking inspiration from metallic embellishments and jeweled accents seen at New York Fashion Week, these lacquers are sure to perfectly complement any chic holiday outfit.
As a part of their Eclats du Soir de Chanel collection, Chanel is launching one new lacquer this season. The limited edition Malice is a deep, rich blood red with hints of bronze and black.
Deborah Lippmann has several exclusive collections that are only available at certain stores. All of these lacquers are beautiful and give you plenty of options for your holiday manicures. Nordstrom will carry the Christmas in the City Trio as well as the Rock this Town Trio.
At Bloomingdales you can find the Sugar Plum Fantasy Trio.
Barney’s will have the She’s Always a Woman Trio and the Millionaire’s Holiday Trio.
The holiday lacquers we are most excited about are the limited edition Diorific Vernis which are part of Dior’s Le Grand Bal makeup collection. These luxurious lacquers, inspired by Old Hollywood glamour, are unique because of the round vintage-style bottles.
Dolce and Gabbana is going wild this season with their Animalier Signature Holiday 2012 Makeup Collection. Their new lacquers are Honey, Caramel and Chocolate: three warm neutral colors that beautifully fit with the animal print theme.
MAC Glamour Daze is a sweet, feminine collection that features pastel hues and pearlescent undertones. These fun, flirty lacquers are great options for breaking away from some of other darker collections.

Summer is officially over, but there’s so much to look forward to this fall! We are anticipating cooler temperatures, cozier fashion and holidays but most of all, fall lacquers! Many amazing collections are about to be released in the next few months. Here are some of our favorites!
One of the collections we are most excited about is NARS x Andy Warhol. Inspired by the iconic pop artist, this collection features 6 Technicolor lacquers. These vibrant polishes will be available October 1 as a part of the NARS x Andy Warhol Color Collection.
Essential items created by Coco Chanel inspire Chanel’s fall collection, Les Essentiels. The little black dress, the quilted handbag, and two-toned shoes are muses for the soft color palette of grey, fuchsia and black.
The Dior Golden Jungle Collection features 3 lacquers inspired by a jungle motif, one of Dior’s signature themes. A khaki green crocodile leather effects polish joins a shimmery gold and a reddish brown lacquer in this earth-toned collection.
According to Tom Ford, his fall lacquers “have a twist of the perverse to them.” Minx, a dark bronze, and Dominatrix, a smoky purple, are edgy, dramatic lacquers perfect for fall.

With the rising popularity of nail polish in the beauty industry, it’s only natural that the range of nail polish and nail products available has increased vastly. Some consumers prefer drugstore polishes that are inexpensive and readily available. It’s understandable; we’d love to have the chance to change our nail color to match our outfits. But while luxury lacquers can be pricey, some of the benefits of choosing a high-end polish far outweigh the cost.
Unlike fashion, most mass nail products can in fact do the basic job of larger brands. So why would someone invest $18 or more in a bottle?

Brands like Chanel, Dior, and Butter London offer products of the highest quality to ensure that the lacquers are not only smooth and long lasting, but also safe. Many drugstore polishes can contain toxic chemicals like dibutyl phthalate, toluene and formaldehyde, which are used to prevent chips and make the lacquer last longer. Luxury lacquers are also heavily pigmented, resulting in a rich formula that lasts longer and goes on smoother.
Drugstore brands attempt to compete with designers by creating similar colors. But the fashion world has a head start here—they seem to be getting more savvy by matching nail colors with their collections, and releasing colors ahead of schedule to capitalize on the fashion industry’s marketing machine.

Lacquerous members get to try luxury brands and wear them before deciding whether to purchase. This is one way to beat the cost and ensure you are certain of the color and polish quality. It also allows you to experience different brands and continue to wear the latest shades in luxury lacquer. The most important thing is that you, as the consumer, are informed of what you are buying and using.
In beauty, as in fashion, it’s always a mix of high and low.
Each Fashion Week, the latest trends are showcased in elaborate runway shows around the world. Before the nail art movement, the usual nail color choice was either bare nails (horror!) or a pale pink or nude shade. Now that nail art is such a huge trend and a growing business, more designers are taking the time to coordinate the models’ nails with their designs. Here are some of our favorite nail trends straight from the runway!
French Manicure

Popular in the 1920s and 1930s, the French manicure was designed to closely resemble natural nails. A French manicure can complement any outfit. This simple trend can be worn natural for an understated look or with bold colors for a more daring style.
Lacquerous Tip: Break away from the traditional French manicure by using bright lacquers or mixing & matching each nail with different colors.
Half Moon Manicures

Half moon manicures were popular in the 1930s and 1940s because of their ease. Ladies wanted to cut down their time spent painting their nails so they opted to just paint half of them. For a truly vintage look, leave the lower half of your nails bare.
Lacquerous Tip: Looking to recreate this look on your own nails? Use reinforcement labels to achieve the perfect half-moon.
Metallic Nails

We love anything shiny! Metallic nails are a great way to add some flair to your nails without taking too much away from your outfit. Whether you choose gold, silver or a colored metallic polish, your manicure is sure to stand out.
Lacquerous Tip: Try a gorgeous metallic polish like Chanel Gold Fingers or Dior Silver Lake to make your nails shine.
