Trend to Try: Nail Rings & Charms

These days it’s not enough to just wear the hottest nail polish shades. With so many innovative nail art ideas, we constantly have to step up our game. One way to do so is with nail rings and charms! A little bit of bling goes a long way, so these are an ideal way to wear nail art without going overboard.

image

Chanel majorly put nail rings into style with their Fall 2013 Haute Couture show. Instead of painting the models’ nails with their luxury lacquer, they stacked delicate rings on their fingers and nails. This style is chic and unique! We see this being a huge trend this fall.

image

Want to rock nail rings like the Chanel girls? Get started with this guide from Catbird, who have tons of delicate rings perfect for this look!

image

Nail rings and charms are popular in Hollywood as well. Beyoncé wears nail rings in several of her videos, including Run the World (Girls) and Sweet Dreams.

image

Black Book Magazine decked out Nicole Richie in gold serpent rings for their April 2009 issue.

image

For the launch of her perfume Fame, Lady Gaga wore extra long nail rings covered in gold charms and jewels.

Nailing the Newsstands: June 2013

Once again it’s time to look to the latest fashion magazines to see what’s on trend this season. For the month of June many of the editorials are ready for summer, with beachy style and vibrant nails taking center stage. Others incorporate fall lacquer shades into warm weather locales, which turn out beautifully. Here are some of our favorite editorials from this month!

Our June Lacqueen Kate Moss spends a day at sea in playful prints, bold jewelry and bright white nails for British Vogue. A white lacquer like LVX Fantom is the perfect summer shade!

For Allure Russia, Kendra Spears is having fun in vibrant swimwear and chic outline nails. We love the matching lips and nails!

Candice Swanepoel stuns in Interview Germany wearing chic black lacquer. For a similar look, try Chanel Black Satin.

For Vogue Taiwan, Sung Hee Kim lounges by the pool in vibrant makeup and bright designer clothes. Her wavy nail art beautifully complements her graphic style.

Karmen Pedaru is the epitome of glamour for Vogue Germany in a trendy oxblood manicure. Recreate her chic nail style with Tom Ford Bordeaux Lust.

Jessica Hart looks gorgeous in a beige-grey lacquer for Cosmopolitan. Get the look with Chanel Frenzy.

Instagram Roundup: Fresh Spring Nail Art

Spring is officially here and we are on the lookout for this season’s hottest nail art! As you know, one of our favorite places to get manicure inspiration is Instagram. We love seeing how people experiment with their nails using the top luxury lacquer brands. Here are some of the biggest trends in nail art right now straight from Instagram! (Remember, if you’re a Lacquerous member aka Lacqueen please send us your pics to share!)

The French manicure is always on trend and this season many people are playing around with the classic style.

image

Vladi_07’s mismatched French mani is so fun! Laura_ahn used the sparkly Deborah Lippmann Happy Birthday on her tips. Arielalaib topped Deborah Lippmann Waking Up in Vegas with a silver Sally Hansen lacquer for a cool geometric look.

Polka dots have been seen a lot on the spring runways and they make for an easy nail art technique to recreate.

image

Misturinhachic used several different Dior Vernis shades to create a colorful, Easter egg-inspired manicure. Crimsonlovesyou topped Butter London Lady Muck with Royal Navy dots and a matte topcoat. Mixing royal blue Dior Blue Denim and Essie No Place Like Chrome created a stellar manicure for Fraise_chocolat.

Leopard print adds dimension to your manicure, whether you are rocking it on all of your nails or just as an accent design.

image

Britbere88 used OPI Gargantuan Green Grape as the base for a neutral leopard print. To add something special to her neon leopard nails, Yannyglez topped them with an OPI matte topcoat. This purple and lavender Dior Vernis design from likemycookie is pretty and sophisticated.

Nude nails work for everyone and these ladies chose the perfect luxury shades for their complexions.

image

Forecast_for_fashion’s talons look great in Tom Ford Toasted Sugar. Chanel Le Vernis Beige helps Chanel_svp’s short nails look longer. Danariehna’s manicure looks glossy and elegant thanks to Chanel Le Vernis Emprise.

Modest Manicures Stand Out at Golden Globes

The 70th Annual Golden Globe Awards were held last night and the fashion did not disappoint! While red was the most popular color, nail art was kept minimally chic. It was all about one-color luxury lacquers to compliment the gowns. Here’s our round up:

Adele matched her nails to burnt orange detailing on her sleek Burberry gown.

image  image

Kerry Washington’s blush Miu Miu ensemble was flawlessly complemented with soft pink nails.

image

Marion Cotillard stunned in tangerine Dior Haute Couture and icy grey nails.

image

Anne Hathaway wore a gorgeous beaded Chanel gown and accessorized with a pearl-accented Chanel manicure.

image

Jennifer Lopez paired her nude illusion Zuhair Murad gown with nude stilleto-shaped nails.

image image

Jessica Alba wore a beautiful salmon Oscar de la Renta gown with a matching light pink manicure. Check out our new Pink shades on Lacquerous.

image image

Rachel Weisz accented a lovely sheer polka-dotted Louis Vuitton gown with ruby red nails.

image image

Sarah Hyland wore jet black Max Azria Atelier, which worked perfectly with her black and gold manicure.

image image

Nicole Richie rocked a lacy blue Naeem Khan gown and charcoal nails.

image image

Julianne Hough wowed in an edgy white Monique Lhullier gown and added a pop of color with dark purple and silver nails.

##

Metallic Accents

Any manicure can be improved with metallic lacquer! We recommend using a vibrant metallic lacquer like NARS Diamond Life or Butter London Knackered for a twist on the traditional sparkly manicure. This year we’re leaning towards blues, bright reds and emerald greens.

Nude Nails

You really can’t go wrong with classic nude nails! Our favorite nude shades include Deborah Lippmann Sarah Smile, Tom Ford Naked and Chanel Beige. This year, they are more shiny than matte and a little nail art can add that extra pop. Nude lacquer is always a runway favorite and never goes out of style!

Welcome to Lacquerous! “Netflix For Nails” has arrived!

The day has come: Lacquerous has finally gone live! Now you have access to a fabulous inventory of luxury lacquers that are available to try without having to buy.

Thanks to Refinery 29 for breaking the story yesterday. Check out what they had to say, along with others.

"We love this idea — access to designer-ready digits without having to shell out $30 for a single polish? Genius. We’ve rarely, if ever, used an entire bottle of polish in our lives — usually we get halfway down and they start getting all tacky and hard to use, so we just chuck them. This gives you the opportunity to try the latest shades, without the commitment or the hefty price tag. And, for those of you germaphobes worried about shared polish being unsanitary, remember that the polishes you use at the nail salon are just that: communal, meaning lots of other people have used them. Not to mention the fact that nail polish manufacturers have to make sure that their lacquers are safe despite how many people are using them, meaning that polish is not a cesspool of icky bacteria, thank you very much.” ~Refinery 29

In this anti-ownership era, anyone one can have anything for a limited time only. We bike share, Zipcar, and Netflix our way through the day without having to sign anything permanent. Websites like Rent the Runway and Bag Borrow or Steal allow a tenuous hold on whatever the heart desires (within company-defined limits). Lacquerous, a brand-new nail polish sharing company, combines the rental aspect of Rent the Runway with the subscription model of Birchbox, to allow any girl to dip her nails into a variety of luxury polishes for a flat rate of $18 a month. ~ TIME Style

The most common question we receive is naturally about hygiene. Yep, we’ve heard it all! The fact is that, as microbiologists confirm, no fungus, bacteria, microbe or anything living can survive in a bottle of nail polish. At Lacquerous, bottles are sealed for at least 1 day in transit and we inspect all bottles received. The truth is, whether we want to admit it or not, we all take a risk when sharing makeup at a department store or eating from a salad bar or touching a handrail.. If you are germaphobe, then sadly this probably isn’t for you.

Some of the other common questions we’ve been getting are: What if I use to much? Will I get a new bottle everytime?  The answer is, much like a club, it’s about sharing the product. We provide an experience to our members to try luxury lacquer. We’ll never send you anything that isn’t Instagram worthy ;) All we ask is that you stick to the guidelines as close as possible and we’ll make sure you will enjoy being a part of Lacquerous. We’re less like Big Brother and a lot more like a big sister! All these questions are answered on the website too.

Now, for the fun part! What colors do you want to try? You can email Lacquerous while you are waiting! Here are some of the designer brands already available:

Butter London

Chanel

Deborah Lippmann

Dior

Dolce & Gabbana

MAC

NARS

Tom Ford

Ooh La La! Holiday 2012 Collections

Now that we’ve had fun with Halloween-inspired nail art, it’s time to think about the holidays! This is such a special time of year and we can’t think of a better way to kick off the holiday season than by looking at some of the upcoming Holiday 2012 lacquer collections.

Butter London’s holiday collection is all about the sparkle! Taking inspiration from metallic embellishments and jeweled accents seen at New York Fashion Week, these lacquers are sure to perfectly complement any chic holiday outfit.

As a part of their Eclats du Soir de Chanel collection, Chanel is launching one new lacquer this season. The limited edition Malice is a deep, rich blood red with hints of bronze and black.

Deborah Lippmann has several exclusive collections that are only available at certain stores. All of these lacquers are beautiful and give you plenty of options for your holiday manicures. Nordstrom will carry the Christmas in the City Trio as well as the Rock this Town Trio.

At Bloomingdales you can find the Sugar Plum Fantasy Trio.

Barney’s will have the She’s Always a Woman Trio and the Millionaire’s Holiday Trio.

The holiday lacquers we are most excited about are the limited edition Diorific Vernis  which are part of Dior’s Le Grand Bal makeup collection. These luxurious lacquers, inspired by Old Hollywood glamour, are unique because of the round vintage-style bottles.

Dolce and Gabbana is going wild this season with their Animalier Signature Holiday 2012 Makeup Collection. Their new lacquers are Honey, Caramel and Chocolate: three warm neutral colors that beautifully fit with the animal print theme.

MAC Glamour Daze is a sweet, feminine collection that features pastel hues and pearlescent undertones. These fun, flirty lacquers are great options for breaking away from some of other darker collections.

Less Is More For Lacquer At Paris Fashion Week

Paris Fashion Week wrapped up a few days ago, bringing Fashion Month to a close. As the fashion capital of the world, Paris is known for some of the most exciting runway shows of the season. Though we expected to see some unconventional nail art this week, most designers chose minimal manicures.

At Chanel, models wore classic French manicures that complemented the young, fresh collection beautifully. Manicurists used Chanel Le Vernis Ballerina and Eastern Light, which is part of the upcoming Hong Kong collection.

Louis Vuitton also chose French manicures to accent the graphic mod-inspired collection.

The feminine clothes at Valentino were paired with nude lacquer for a more delicate style.

Some designers chose more vibrant polishes this season. Jean Paul Gaultier’s 80s-inspired collection was accented with bright red lips and matching nails.

At Giles, MAC makeup artists matched matte fuchsia lips with hot pink nails, as the designer wanted the beauty looks to resemble makeup done at home.

The safari-inspired looks at Kenzo were complemented with forest green, orange and brown nails.

Now that fashion month is over, we can look forward to fall lacquer collections!

Fall Lacquer Collections

Summer is officially over, but there’s so much to look forward to this fall! We are anticipating cooler temperatures, cozier fashion and holidays but most of all, fall lacquers! Many amazing collections are about to be released in the next few months. Here are some of our favorites!

One of the collections we are most excited about is NARS x Andy Warhol. Inspired by the iconic pop artist, this collection features 6 Technicolor lacquers. These vibrant polishes will be available October 1 as a part of the NARS x Andy Warhol Color Collection.

Essential items created by Coco Chanel inspire Chanel’s fall collection, Les Essentiels. The little black dress, the quilted handbag, and two-toned shoes are muses for the soft color palette of grey, fuchsia and black.

The Dior Golden Jungle Collection features 3 lacquers inspired by a jungle motif, one of Dior’s signature themes. A khaki green crocodile leather effects polish joins a shimmery gold and a reddish brown lacquer in this earth-toned collection.

According to Tom Ford, his fall lacquers “have a twist of the perverse to them.” Minx, a dark bronze, and Dominatrix, a smoky purple, are edgy, dramatic lacquers perfect for fall.

Trend to Try: Accent Nails

Looking to step up your nail art game without going overboard? Then an accent nail is perfect! You can achieve this look by painting all of your nails the same color except your one (or two) fingers. The most popular has been the ring finger also known as the ‘fourth finger manicure’.

For a fall look, try neutral colors and paint your accent nail with the color of your tips like Jessica Alba. If you look closely, you’ll see she’s chosen a brown shade for her mani and ring finger.

Want to stick with the brights? You can choose complementary colors like Beyonce did for her light pink and mint green mani.

For a wilder look, mix solid colored lacquer with patterned nail art, like Michelle Williams, Nicole Scherzinger and Vanessa Hudgens.

Fall 2012 Nail Trends

Summer is about halfway over and Fall fashion is taking over. Soon we will be putting away our bright neon lacquers in favor of darker hues. According to the runways, one major lacquer trend is jewel tones. From rich burgundy at Catherine Malandrino to navy blue at Karen Walker, bold jewel tones are sure to be a hit this fall.

Another fall trend is texture. Many designers chose to forego perfectly smooth manicures in favor of nails with interesting textures. The girls at Alice + Olivia wore black and gold glitter manicures that were inspired by fabrics in the collection. At Jeremy Scott, each nail was a different bright color covered in lace.

The fall haute couture (2012-2013) shows wrapped up this week and our favorite nail art is from Chanel, whose collection was perfectly accented with light pink and silver moon manicures. This shade is a lot softer—appeared to resemble their MAY lacquer—in comparison to the colors they want us to be wearing this Fall: Diwali, Suspicious, Frenzy, Vertigo. We’ll take them all please.
