New York Fashion Week: Fall 2013 Nails

Every fashion week, more and more attention is paid to nail art. Designers are hiring talented manicurists who can create exquisite art that works perfectly with their designs. For the New York Fashion Week Fall 2013 season, the caliber of nail art was at an all time high. Here are a few of the trends we spotted on the runways!

Matte lacquer is one of the biggest trends in nail art today and there was a ton of it during fashion week.

Badgley Mischka’s luxurious collection, featuring several gowns that would look great at the Oscars, was complemented with Deborah Lippmann’s Red Silk Boxers, a metallic shade that dries matte.

A simple black matte manicure works well with Misha Nonoo’s Russian countryside-inspired designs.

At Karen Walker, an edgy black matte manicure was created to accent a collection inspired by punk rock.

Rebecca Taylor’s androgynous show was completed with navy matte nails.

The half-moon manicure is a nail art staple, but this season many shows featured a funky twist on the classic style.

Bold makeup and an exaggerated blue grey half moon manicure added whimsy to the mystical Threeasfour collection.

Gold rings worked well with the diamond half-moons at Titania Inglis.

Sally Hansen created three custom shades for Prabal Gurung and used them to create an olive and gold pointed manicure.

Sally Hansen also created a custom shade of blue for Tracy Reese’s show and paired it with a gold lacquer.

Several designers chose to go over the top and send some funky nail art down the runway.

The Blonds are notorious for their wild designs and bold nail art. Their Fall 2013 collection featured nails with images of Jack Nicholson in The Shining.

For their show, Ruffian strayed from their signature half-moons and chose a shiny black manicure topped with lace.

DKNY went wild and created long, blinged-out talon nails featuring floral prints and gold studs.

Libertine also experimented with jewels and created a gold manicure with colorful gems, which were each applied individually by hand.

Get Ready for Halloween with Spooky Nail Art!

Halloween is coming up next week and we can’t think of a better way to celebrate than with some spooky nail art! One of our favorite nail art trends is the eerie blood dripped look from Prabal Gurung’s Spring 2013 runway show.

This trend is going to be huge this season! Lacquerous’ own Cyndi Ramirez is rocking this killer manicure by Christina Rinaldi of Prima Creative. How amazing is this minimalist blood and cross design?

The lovely Fleury Rose created a few Halloween-themed styles for Illamasqua and Beautylish. We love the evil eye and witch’s moon designs!

Birchbox had a great tutorial on ghostly nail art as well. You can choose which design to create based on your skill level. The mummy nails are especially awesome!

What kind of spooky nail art will you be wearing for Halloween?

Nail Trends from NYFW

New York Fashion Week wrapped up a few days ago and ofcourse nail art was front and center on the runway. Trends for Spring 2013 range from classic nude nails to unusual 3D manicures. Here are some of our favorite looks!

The biggest trend at NYFW was simple, dainty manicures. Marc Jacobs, Rodarte and Angel Sanchez all accessorized their collections with minimal nail art.

Several designers chose lacquer styles greatly influenced by their collections. Prabal Gurung had dripping crimson nails to match his dark, mysterious clothes. The nails at Kate Spade were printed with cheery white and pink gingham to coincide with the garden-themed looks. Assembly NY added some whimsy to bare nails with white doodles, evocative of high schoolers drawing on their nails with White-Out.

Some of the wilder nail art was 3D. “Psycho Beach Party” inspired the Blonds collection so the nails were ocean themed, including a red coral design. Joy Cioci had angelic white and silver caviar manicures. The craziest nail art at New York Fashion Week has to be from Binetti. These oyster shell nails may seem impractical, but they are perfect for this breezy collection!
